Robert Anthony Plant (born 20 August 1948), is an English rock singer and songwriter, famous for his membership in the former rock band Led Zeppelin as the lead vocalist, as well as well for his successful solo career. Initially dubbed the "New Yardbirds" in 1968, the band Robert Plant formed with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham soon came to be known as Led Zeppelin. The band's self-titled debut album hit the charts in 1969 and is widely credited as a catalyst for the heavy metal genre.
